Spinal Decompression Therapy

Decompression Therapy is a safe, powerful, and effective spinal therapy used by chiropractors to reduce nerve interference and inflammation in the spine. At North Alabama Spine & Rehab, we offer spinal decompression therapy through Accu-SPINA® as well as the MTD 4000 Decompression System as a way to reduce inflammation in the spine, providing relief from pain and discomfort. This gentle, non-invasive, and safe therapy helps to create space between each disc, allowing blood flow, circulation of nutrients, and oxygen to flood the area. With decompression therapy, you can experience improved posture, decreased pain, and improved mobility.

North Alabama Spine & Rehab is part of Disc Centers of America.

The Accu-SPINA®

The Accu-SPINA® is the only therapeutic device approved to deliver IDD Therapy® (Intervertebral Differential Dynamics) Disc Treatment. IDD Therapy® is a broad range of treatment protocols that mimics many conventional physical-therapy regimens. Unlike those other regimens, the Accu-SPINA® is able to treat the specific spinal segments that are damaged with computer directed precision, and variable pressure, to ensure an individualized treatment protocol for each patient. There truly is no other spinal rehabilitation device like the Accu-SPINA®.

The MTD 4000 Decompression System

The MTD 4000 decompression system offers static and intermittent traction, as it gently pulls the cervical spine or lumber spine in opposite directions, allowing patients to experience relief from sciatica, bulging discs, herniated discs, deteriorative joint disease, compression fractures, and a wide range of other spine or disc related issues.

What is Decompression Therapy?

Decompression therapy is a powerful way to decrease inflammation in the spine, creating space between each disc and allowing blood flow, circulation of nutrients, and oxygen to flood the area. This therapy is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. At North Alabama Spine & Rehab, we offer spinal decompression to help relieve your spinal pain.

Decompression therapy is a type of chiropractic treatment that uses mechanical traction to gently stretch the spine and alleviate pressure on the joints and nerves. This treatment method utilizes a specialized table that is outfitted with a traction device, either motorized or manual. The patient lays on the table and is secured with belts or other restraints, depending on the type of decompression therapy used.

The table will then be adjusted to pull or stretch the spine, creating negative pressure within discs and thereby decreasing pressure on the nerves. This negative pressure allows for the reduction of herniated or bulging discs.

Decompression therapy can also improve the flow of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the affected area, promoting the body’s natural healing processes.

Decompression therapy can be used to address a variety of spinal conditions, including herniated discs, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. It is a non-invasive and drug-free treatment that has been shown to be effective at reducing pain and improving mobility.

Decompression therapy is often used in conjunction with other chiropractic treatments, such as spinal adjustments, massage therapy, and exercise programs, to optimize overall spinal health and promote long-lasting results.

Common Symptoms and Conditions Treated Through Spinal Decompression

Traumatic Brain Injury can be fatal. For survivors, TBI can cause any of a number of physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms. Of course, not every patient will have all of these symptoms, and some patients will have symptoms not listed here.

    Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain is often caused by spinal disc problems that may include herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. These conditions can lead to compression of the spinal nerves or inflammation and discomfort within the spinal joints. Decompression therapy works by gently stretching the spine, reducing the pressure on affected nerves, and relieving any inflammation present.

    Bulging Disc

Decompression therapy can help reduce the size of bulging disks and alleviate their associated pain. It works by gently stretching the spine to create more space between the vertebrae, which can reduce pressure on the disk and help it return to its original position. This type of treatment is typically done with a traction table that slowly stretches and relaxes the spine. Decompression therapy can also be done with a specialized machine that gradually pulls the body downward to create more space between the vertebrae. Depending on the condition of your back and its severity, decompression therapy may need to be done on a regular basis in order to achieve lasting relief from back pain.

    Sciatica Pain

Decompression therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for sciatica sufferers looking for relief from their symptoms. Decompression therapy works by gently stretching the spine which creates negative pressure inside the disc space. This negative pressure helps reposition bulging discs away from nerve roots and relieves pressure on pinched nerves that are causing sciatica-related pain and numbness.

    Herniated Disc

Yes, decompression therapy can treat herniated discs. This type of therapy works by relieving pressure from the spinal column, allowing it to heal and reduce pain. Herniated discs occur when the soft tissue and padding between spinal discs is disrupted and shifted or pushing out of the spinal canal. By creating space between the discs, herniations can be reduced and corrected over time.

    Joint Pain

Decompression therapy is a type of chiropractic treatment that can be very beneficial in treating joint pain caused by certain conditions. This type of therapy uses slow, gentle stretches to increase the space between two vertebrae in the spine, allowing for more fluid movement and less pressure on nerves, discs, and other structures. In addition to reducing pain, decompression therapy can improve flexibility, mobility, and health of the overall spine.

    Muscle Pain

Decompression therapy may be able to help relieve muscle pain, depending on the cause of the pain. Decompression therapy is a form of physical therapy that involves gently stretching and moving the affected area to relieve pressure and tension. This can help reduce tightness and knots in the muscles while reducing inflammation, which can both lead to relief from pain and an improvement in overall function.
